How to Hypnotize Someone?

Hypnotherapy has a long history of being used for many things including relaxation, the cessation of unwanted habits, weight loss, smoking cessation, nail biting, increased self-esteem and countless other personal uses. Self hypnosis is something that can work for almost any willing participant and usually produces the wanted results.

The most widely used method for hypnotizing someone is what is known as the progressive relaxation session technique.  This technique is where the subject is taken through a series of relaxation exercises before taken into the hypnotic trance.  It is not a form of mind control like you see on TV or in the movies, but rather is a therapeutic tool used by hypnotherapists and everyday citizens.

Before the actual self hypnosis session can begin the subject must be in a comfortable position, preferably lying down.  Have the subject to get completely relaxed and situated comfortably.

Have your subject close his eyes. Now begin by having the subject to think of his body and all of the muscle sets within his body.  Now have the subject start at his feet and begin canceling the muscles within his feet for a few seconds before allowing them to relax.  Instruct the subject to do the same with each group of muscles working your way up to the subject's head.  Be sure to give positive reinforcement along the way, letting the subject know that they are doing well.  Keep your voice as soothing as possible, but do not speak in a monotone voice or you will just sound creepy.

You may need to repeat this process several times before you get your subject to a completely relaxed state.  Once you have them relaxed it is time to deepen the trance by counting backwards from any number, but 20 is a very common starting point.  Make sure you caught a couple of seconds between each number so it will be a relaxing countdown and not be something that will cause excitement.  You may need to repeat this process several times to get the desired results.

Once your subject is in the deepened and relaxed trance, you may begin making your suggestions.  When making your suggestions to your hypnotized subject, do not mention yourself.  Do not say things like," I want you to.." but rather say, " You will.." because you are making suggestions for them.

Once you have major suggestions, it is now time to bring your subject out from under hypnosis.  This is accomplished by beginning at the number 1 and counting up to 5, while using sedition to bring your subject out of hypnosis.  For example you could say, "I am now going to count up to five. By the time I have counted five, you will be awake, feeling refreshed and relaxed.

This is a highly effective method to hypnotize someone, or it can be used successfully for self hypnosis sessions.  Of course it will take some practice, but by following this simple formula, you will have a successful hypnotherapy session.

When self hypnosis is learned from a licensed hypnotherapist, it can be used to perform wonders on individual’s life.  It can break bad habits and reinforce the good ones.  It is an effective tool that within the right hands can make a positive difference in the life of many.
